President of CCUSA Sofian Qamar speaking to News925 said : “We have had applications from 176 teams to take part in this year’s US Open T20 and after careful consideration we have settled on 12. We took into account the teams that responded to our conditions for playing in a timely manner and once we were satisfied that they fitted all the criteria we were more than happy to have them on board.
“We cannot take in more than 12 teams this year and we do apologize to all the others that we can’t accommodate. Very early on we set out guidelines for the teams to get into the tournament and we gave everyone a fair chance of coming to play. At this point in time we are satisfied with the process that we undertook to have the teams onboard and we look forward to staging a successful 14th edition of the tournament.”
Qamar said that other teams who did not meet the deadline can submit their application early for next year’s tournament and it will be looked at. The US Open T20 tournament is the most popular T20 tournament in North America and a number of international stars have played in the tournament in the post.
