The 14th Edition of the very popular US Open T20 tournament will be played from December 5 at the Central Broward Regional Park in Sunrise, Fort Lauderdale USA.

The tournament which put US Cricket on the map many years ago will be a nine-day event, ending on December 13. This is the 14th Edition and there will be US$100,000 on offer as prize money.

President of Cricket Council USA (CCUSA) Sofian Qamar said that the tournament dates this year were carefully selected. CCUSA is the umbrella body that runs the US Open T20 tournament. According to Qamar: “The dates were carefully chosen because we are planning a block of cricket in December. We want to ensure that we expend our resources properly so instead of breaking up the different tournaments we are blocking a certain period in December to host what will be three of our main tournaments.

“We are going to release the dates for the Youth US Open T20 and the Ladies US Open T20 pretty soon and it is expected to follow the major event which is of course the US Open T20.”

Qamar contended that for the entire year chairman Mahammad Qureshi has been toying with different dates as he was looking to get the perfect time. “The chairman has been working very hard in terms of finding the right time for this year’s event. He has come up with December 5 to 13 and this is the perfect time when you take everything into account.

“We are expecting a great tournament this year and we have been inundated with calls from many team owners who want to take part. This is the major tournament in the United States and we are hoping to accommodate as many players as we can.”
