US Open T20 set for December 6
The 2021 US Open T20 tournament will be played from December 6 to 19 at the Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale.
The tournament which carries a cash purse of $100,000 will be showcase event in the US this year in terms of cricket as many world stars will be coming to play. Chairman of Cricket Council USA Mahammad Qureshi revealed in Boca today that the tournament dates have been settled and plans are on the way to host 10 teams.
“We are still battling Covid so we need to be aware of having huge gatherings so we are using just 10 teams. What this also tells me is that with only 10 teams the talent will be more concentrated leading to more competitive matches.”
Qureshi added that plans are afoot and all the matches will be held under strict Covid 19 guidelines. “We held our US Open T20 tournament last year at the same venue and we had no issues. This time around we are hoping to again pull off a world class event despite the Covid 19.”The teams will be vying for US$100,000 in prize money plus there will also be individual prizes available.
