MARGATE/FL – USA: Cricket Council USA today received a major endorsement from the Mayor of Lauderdale Lakes Hazelle Rogers.
Rogers paid a courtesy call on the chairman of Cricket Council USA Mahammad Qureshi at his Margate headquarters and mentioned that she is very pleased with the development work that the cricket body has done when it comes to cricket.
Rogers who was an integral part of the set up that got the Central Broward Regional Park built said: “It gives me great pleasure to endorse Cricket Council USA with the Cricket World Cup coming up in 2024 in this country. Cricket Council and Maq Qureshi have done so much work in the development of cricket in this country and we are depending on him to bring World Cup matches to Fort Lauderdale because we need it.
“It will help in assisting the economy here and we are very serious of sports tourism in these parts. We have seen what the US Open T20 brings to us and also what the netball brought when we hosted a youth world netball series about 10 years ago.
“When Cricket Council stages the Us Open T20 we get that economic boost during the December month and we are about putting heads on beds.” In 2019 before the onset of Covid 19, the economic boost for period of the US Open T20 during the month of December was $4.2M.
Rogers continued: “This is the kind of stimulus we need for the County and Maq Qureshi has been a stalwart in assisting us in this way. He has been an awesome citizen and we owe him a debt of gratitude.”
