Hyderabad comes alive with MCL
By VINODE MAMCHAN
Hafizabad loved it, now Hyderabad will get a taste of it, as the Major Cricket League (MCL) bandwagon rolls into the city for cricket action over the next few days.
A couple months ago the vision of Mahammad Qureshi was realised as he brought Major league cricket to Pakistan. The response was great from players and fans as the Lahore Lions took the inaugural title. At the end of it all 14 players were selected and they will be given opportunities to play in the United States and other countries across the globe.
Now Qureshi has decided to spread the Major league reach and Hyderabad will get a chance to see top level cricket starting on August 26 and running until August 29 at the Niaz Stadium. The teams vying for honors are champions Lahore Lions, Karachi Sharks, Islamabad Tigers, Hyderabad Jaguars, Hafizabad Stallions and Faisalabad Bears.
Qureshi speaking about the tournament said: “MCL starting in Hyderabad Pakistan is a great thing. Congratulations to all teams and players who are selected to play MCL Pakistan as we are now giving every player the opportunities to play high level of cricket, plus television exposure so we can see all players perform. When this happens we can then select the best players from the tournament to play matches at the US Open T20 tournament or other top level cricket in America. This is a major platform for these players and I want to urge them to take the opportunity with both hands and make use of it.
MCL Pakistan official Asif Shams says all is ready. “All is set for the tournament to take place. We have put everything in place in a very quick time and we are excited to bring another cricket opportunity to Pakistanis through the Major Cricket League (MCL). Mr. Qureshi’s vision was always to give back to Pakistan and he has done that through cricket. The people of Hyderabad is so happy that we are coming to play this league there and they know that this is a great boost for cricket in these parts.”
